The Ecology Center is an environmental education center in San Juan Capistrano, California. They hired Perry Garvin Studio to redesign their website to present an intuitive interface for accessing the Center's array of programs. We simplified the navigation options, introduced bold illustrated graphics, and built a content management system that enabled staff to update all parts of the site.

New Museum Digital Archive

New Museum Digital Archive

The New Museum of Contemporary Art's Digital Archive presents thousands of images, videos, and recordings from its over 30 year history. Perry Garvin Studio worked with the New Museum to construct its digital archive metadata scheme and apply it to thousands of objects. We then designed a website for the public to access this content.

The New Museum used CollectiveAccess, an open source software package, to manage their archival collection. Perry Garvin Studio worked closely with Whirl-i-Gig, the developers of CollectiveAccess, to implement a new public-facing user interface which was subsequently folded into future releases.

The High Line

The High Line is a public park built on a 1.45-mile-long elevated rail structure on Manhattan's West Side. Perry Garvin Studio designed the park's website to complement its grand opening in 2009.

Our client, Friends of the High Line (FHL), needed to present an array of content including park information, event listings, and store items. Taking cues from project architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro, we extended The High Line's modern, functional design into the web experience.

The Partnership for the Homeless raised over $2 milion dollars in one night thanks in part to the website Perry Garvin Studio designed and built for their benefit auction. The site presented live auction items for sale in a clean, minimal frame.

"The Generational: Younger Than Jesus" was an exhibition of contemporary art by artists under the age of 33. Perry Garvin Studio designed a blog to enable the museum's curators to post additional information about the show.

The artists' names create the background graphic. Bright pink accents suggest an 80s feel - appropriate to the era in which these artists grew up.

Jeremy Deller Exhibition Calendar

Over a six-week period at the New Museum in New York, British artist Jeremy Deller invited journalists, Iraqi refugees, soldiers, and scholars to share their memories of the last decade in and out of Iraq. The exhibition was titled "It Is What It Is: Conversations About Iraq." Perry Garvin Studio designed and developed a calendar for museum patrons to keep track of the speaker schedule. Color-coding indicates the type of speaker and pop-up boxes show more information without navigating the user away from the main calendar.

“After Nature" was an exhibition of art engaged in post-apocalyptic themes. Perry Garvin Studio concepted, designed, and implemented an accompanying "experiential website" that sought to infuse a haunting sense of mystery to the exhibition.

Clarity of information was intentionally subordinated to produce a sense of disorientation and dread. A "lo-fi" design was adopted to locate the site's creation in a dystopic future where technological progress had been abandoned.

The New Museum Store is a premier destination for unique contemporary art books and gifts. Perry Garvin Studio redesigned the store website to increase transactions. We increased the image size of items for sale, implemented a strong grid, and clarified information hierarchy. Section overview pages present featured item and visual representations of subcategories. The products' visual richness informs the overall site design.

GET LOST is a collective portrait of downtown New York. Twenty-one international artists were invited to create a personal view of the city and draw a map of downtown New York. The maps were collected in a fanzine publication that was distributed for free.

Perry Garvin Studio designed a website so that magazine content could be viewed online. Light design treatment threw visual emphasis to the artist maps. Maps could be scrolled, panned, and zoomed to magnifications of up to 300%.
